Moasb's Story
Remedial education can
help struggling learners shore up their basic skills. This extra support can
help them catch up to their peers. And sometimes, if a student’s gaps in
learning aren’t related to a disability, it can eliminate the need for referral
to special education where it can catch up the basic skills more easily.
On the other hand, Psychosocial support helps individuals and communities to
heal the psychological wounds and rebuild social structures after an emergency
or a critical event. It can help change people into active survivors rather
than passive victims.
SHAHD as a non-governmental Association established
in Lebanon in 2016 aiming to “A happy, healthy and creative child whose rights
are protected in a society built on respect for dignity, justice and equity for
l”.
SHAHD with cooperation with TDH Italy and ARCPA
and with the support of UNICEF and BMZ starts a project titled
“Improving access to inclusive education and learning support programs for all
children living in Palestinian camps and gatherings of Lebanon”. As a part of
this project many children have the opportunity to get better learning and
psychosocial support.
Mosab Sobhi Ghorli, 14
years old Lebanese child whose mother is Palesntian. He was a normal child as
the other children registered in SHAHD association. During his stay at SHAHD,
he was receiving the educational and psychosocial support activities. In 2017,
his parents faced several problems, that made the family relations to be
hesitant. As a result, he was effected by this problem psychologically, ending
in a weak behavior in his educational level. So he was a victim as a result of
the mother, and the father conflict. He became sad, hesitant, and Several
times, he thought ending his life to commit a suicide, as a way to solve his
family problems.
Mrs. Salam Sehweil, the PSS specialist, at SHAHD association, noticed the difference in Mosab’s behavior so that he became violent with his friends, shy and isolated during the activities in SHAHD Association.

At that time, Mrs.
Salam contacted with his mother to assess the case, and to describe the causes
of his behavior. The mother said that, Mosab was affected by the conflict
happening between the mother and the father. She said that, at home he kept
breaking glasses, and kept screaming.
The PSS specialist,
the coordinator of SHAHD association with the cooperation of Najda psychologist
designed an individual plan to support Mosab on the psychosocial and
educational level on the bases of the two running projects “Improving access to
inclusive education and learning support programs for all children living in
Palestinian camps and gatherings of Lebanon”, and “Community Protection and
Empowerment: COPE”.
Besides, Mosab took a
special psychological programs with Faten Zeid Aldein, the psychological
specialist at AL Najda Association.
Besides the FPSS
sessions and special lessons (especially in English) that is supported by UNICEF
and implemented in the cooperation of TDH and ARCPA, Mosab
enrolled in Youth at Risk and Life Skills Programs as well as in educational
classes that are supported by the same NGOs and organizations mentioned above.
After several sessions, Mosab psychological situation appeared to be improved, and it was vivid that he started struggling to succeed by saying “I want to pass all my problems to prove I am a good and a successful person, I want to be an engineer, and I am working on that”. Recently, at school his grades improved, and all the teachers were very happy on what he became.
